Originating in the early 1980s in Kingston Jamaica, dancehall music developed as a response to the prevalence of conscious reggae. First, it was marked by selectors toasting on top of reggae riddims, soon evolving into a unique mix of synthesized sounds, rhythmic beats, and frequently raw lyrics. This sound experienced further development with the
